Old Time Religion

I was on a walk yesterday trying to find some pictures to share with everyone and I came across this marker. I have driven past it thousands of times but I have never paid much attention to it enough to read it. I like many of you have heard of it or maybe even have sung this hymn many times. I sure was surprised to find out it had it origins as a local negro spiritual song. Once again I find something new about my city because I am looking for a picture to post.

That’s very interesting.
Hey, I notice that this has the bicentennial emblem on it…do you remember celebrating that as kids?

Wonderful! This is really interesting on many levels. I love hymns and spirituals. And 1888 isn’t that old really — and it was written down in S.C.! Makes you wonder where the spiritual got its start from. Do you live / work in Lexington?
(My Dad’s first name is Tillman and his family is from southern Lexington Co. I think of it as the fatherland. đŸ™‚ )

Looking down at every image on this page here I love it…I love to see the things othe people see everyday in their life. I know thinbgs can get manotonous, and we can take ou lovely surroundings for granted sometimes. So these imags, say alot, to people who dont get to see them everyday, and may mean alot to you, when you go away and miss home.

Nice history on the marker. The song has been around ever since I can remember!
